I was joined this morning by by comrade and colleague Renee Johnston to talk about a wide range of topics, most notably Palestine and the Dr. Cornel West campaign. We also discussed cops, education, and how the system works to protect itself. I always have a good time talking to Renee, and she’s right. More people should watch my show. Please check it out, please comment on YouTube, and please feel free to share the episode.
Quite a few Congresspeople and Senators, including Hakeem Jeffries and John Fetterman, felt the need to claim that the Hamas offensive against Israel that broke out this weekend was “unprovoked.” I understand that a politician needs to deplore violence and that Israel is a US ally, but that’s part of the problem. The US State Department and Congress didn’t rise up as one to condemn Israeli attacks on Palestinians over the last two years. They’re clearly favoring a US ally over the Palestinian people that ally is oppressing.
The simple fact is that Israeli settlers have been aggressively provoking Palestinians without a break since Trump was President. The Israeli government chose to applaud the settlers and support them rather than control them. A breaking point was reached and Hamas retaliated against Israel. It’s really that simple. Attempts to portray the Hamas offensive as “unprovoked” are simply wrong whatever your view of Hamas might be. Anyone who understands recent events and calls the attack “unprovoked” is probably just lying.
The Dr. Cornel West for President campaign made another sudden swerve this week, announcing that Dr. West is no longer seeking the Green Party nomination but running as an independent.
Dr. West originally announced his candidacy for President on the Russell Brand show and declared he would be running with the People’s Party. His reason for running was that the Chairman of the extremely fringe People’s Party (a former intern for the Bernie Sanders campaign who exaggerates his importance in order to run a libertarian grift) asked him to run.
Dr. West announced he would be seeking the Green Party nomination after speaking to independent journalist and sometime Green Party activist Chris Hedges. The switch inspired a lot of speculation from the very online set, but more importantly it showed how open to being influenced Dr. West and his campaign are. It doesn’t add much confidence to report that when I filled out a media contact request on the campaign’s website I never heard back in regard to anyone from the campaign appearing on my show, but I did get added to a mailing list to donate to the campaign.
At this point, in my opinion, Dr. West’s campaign is looking feckless. There appears to be no plan. Dr. West has just been reacting to the ideas of others and following their lead. This doesn’t inspire confidence.
I have added a few items to the ongoing thread on the Classics Learning Test board, but it has been growing very slowly as I get distracted by other breaking news. I really want to put more work into pursuing this line of journalism, but I also want to make sure I am giving time to other topics as well. The material about Erika Donalds can be found here, as can everything else I have gathered so far. I hope to continue to update this thread this week.
No echo on my microphone this week, so that’s one less thing to worry about right now. It’s a load off my mind and hopefully things keep running smoothly on the hardware side. The best way to support the show is to share my content, but if you would like to do more then please consider becoming a patron!
